Eventide System

A warm orange-dwarf system whose third planet has become the Vesper March's principal civilian haven.

COLONY
EVENTIDE III
STATUS
ACTIVE RESETTLEMENT

The Eventide system is an inner-March Federation system and the home of the Eventide colony. It lies approximately 11 light years from Starbase 74 — roughly ten days at warp 6 — and serves as the nearest civilian port for Starfleet vessels, relief convoys, diplomatic traffic, and independent shipping operating out of the Vesper March's settled edge.

Eventide was charted in the 23rd century, catalogued as habitable but unremarkable, and left unsettled for more than a century. That assessment changed after the Borg invasion of 2381, when the Federation began opening suitable frontier worlds to large-scale resettlement. By late 2385, Eventide has become a home for millions of displaced citizens and one of the clearest tests of the Federation's post-invasion recovery.

Local Light

Eventide's K-type orange dwarf is smaller and cooler than Sol, giving Eventide III a warm amber daylight that many visitors compare to a long Terran golden hour. Local sunsets are widely considered the system's one point of complete civic agreement.

System Profile
Location Inner Vesper March; nearest civilian Federation community to Starbase 74 and a practical gateway towards the deeper frontier.
Primary Star K-type orange dwarf, smaller and cooler than Sol, producing the warm amber daylight for which Eventide is known.
Primary Settlement Lanternfall, the original landing site on Eventide III and the seat of the colonial assembly, main spaceport, and Governor Erys Vol-Marin's residence.
Population Approximately 1.5 million in late 2385 and rising, with continued arrivals from Federation relief and resettlement programmes.
Administration Argelian-led Federation relief administration under civilian Governor Erys Vol-Marin.
Starfleet Use Shore leave, diplomatic reception, relief coordination, limited logistics, and civilian liaison. Offensive operations are not authorised from the colony except under emergency authority.

Eventide I Inner cinder world. Uninhabitable and of limited operational interest.
Eventide II Hot, dense greenhouse world. Uninhabitable under current Federation settlement criteria.
Eventide III Temperate Class M colony world, slightly smaller than Earth with approximately 0.9 standard gravity, two small moons, shallow seas, temperate forests, and broad grasslands. No native sapient life was present when the settlement charter was approved.
Asteroid Belt Thin belt between Eventide III and the outer giants. Light mining activity supports local construction, orbital infrastructure, and relief logistics.
Eventide V Ringed gas giant known locally as "the Lantern." One moon hosts a fuel-processing station serving Starbase 74, civilian relief routes, and frontier survey vessels.
Eventide VI Distant ice giant, primarily useful as a navigational marker for outer-system traffic.
Eventide III

Eventide III was opened to settlement in 2382 as part of the Federation's post-Borg relief and resettlement effort. The planet was chosen because it was already confirmed Class M, comparatively accessible from Starbase 74, and free of any native sapient civilisation that would raise a Prime Directive concern.

The colony's population includes survivors and displaced families from worlds destroyed or devastated during the Borg invasion, including Deneva, Korvat, Risa, Coridan, and other worlds whose surviving populations could not all return home. They are joined by Argelian administrators, Federation relief workers, frontier traders, independent contractors, and citizens who came to Eventide because beginning again far from the core worlds seemed preferable to waiting for the core worlds to become whole.

Settlement Texture

  • Capital and largest settlement: Lanternfall.
  • Major civic focus: relief housing, medical care, schools, food distribution, and local assembly governance.
  • Common architectural pattern: practical prefabricated structures adapted with local materials as the colony stabilises.
  • Daily stressors: shortages, crowding, uneven infrastructure, and the emotional weight of resettlement.

Social Character

  • Public culture is intentionally gentle, hospitable, and communal.
  • Argelian custom has shaped open-door kitchens, shared meals, civic mediation, and a visible rejection of militarisation.
  • The colony welcomes strangers by policy and by principle, though its capacity is not unlimited.
  • Many residents are still grieving; quietness should not be mistaken for stability.
Lanternfall

Lanternfall stands at the original settlement landing site and remains the political and logistical centre of Eventide. It contains the main colonial spaceport, the colonial assembly, the Governor's residence, principal relief offices, major medical facilities, and the largest concentration of permanent housing on the planet.

The settlement is not a polished capital. It is a working frontier city being asked to become a home faster than any city should have to. Its civic life moves between landing pads, clinics, assembly chambers, communal kitchens, unfinished streets, volunteer offices, market rows, and quiet memorial spaces where residents remember worlds that no longer exist in the way they knew them.

Governor's Office

Governor Erys Vol-Marin is widely respected on Eventide and maintains a deliberately civilian posture towards Starfleet. He welcomes Starfleet personnel as guests and partners, but his administration is explicit that the colony is a home first and a strategic asset second.

Regional Role

Eventide is the Vesper March's most important civilian location. Starbase 74 may be the March's operational anchor, and Bynaus may be its most valuable technical partner, but Eventide is where the Federation's ideals are most visible and most vulnerable. Relief shipping routed through Starbase 74 keeps the colony supplied. Civilian traffic, diplomatic functions, Lessari visits, and Starfleet shore leave all pass through the system.

The colony's administration maintains a cooperative but guarded relationship with Starfleet. Local authorities authorise civilian traffic corridors and defensive coordination, but they resist any use of Eventide as a forward operating base. That resistance is not anti-Starfleet sentiment. It is a direct expression of Argelian pacifism, post-invasion trauma, and the legal and moral responsibility to protect a population of survivors.

What Eventide Offers

  • Civilian port access near the inner March.
  • Relief coordination and medical referral capacity.
  • Diplomatic reception space for Lessari and other regional contacts.
  • Shore leave and civilian contact for Starfleet crews.
  • A human-scale view of what Federation recovery actually means.

What Eventide Needs

  • Reliable relief convoys and supply protection.
  • Infrastructure development that can keep pace with population growth.
  • Medical, counselling, and trauma-care support.
  • Respectful security coordination that does not turn the colony into a garrison.
  • Time enough for temporary shelter to become a lasting home.

Current Assessment

Eventide is hopeful and precarious in equal measure. The colony is safe by frontier standards, but its safety depends on relief shipping, Starbase 74's protection, civilian trust, and careful diplomacy. It should not be treated as a military staging ground, a finished colony, or a passive backdrop to Starfleet activity. It is a living community still deciding what survival becomes after the immediate crisis has passed.

Known Points of Interest
Lanternfall Spaceport The colony's main surface traffic hub, supporting relief convoys, civilian transport, diplomatic arrivals, and limited Starfleet liaison activity.
Colonial Assembly Primary civic governance site for the colony. The assembly works with Governor Vol-Marin's office and Federation relief administrators.
Relief Clinics Medical and trauma-care facilities remain heavily used. Some specialist services rotate through Starbase 74, visiting medical ships, and Federation relief programmes.
Fuel-Processing Station Outer-system station located on a moon of Eventide V, supporting regional fuel logistics for Starbase 74 and frontier survey traffic.

Additional civic districts, settlements, ecological preserves, cultural sites, and local institutions remain under active catalogue review. LCARS records will be updated as the colony develops and as Starfleet crews file verified public reports.
